FRANKLIN (C.) BRITISH NAPOLEONIC UNIFORMS: THE FIRST COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED
GUIDE TO UNIFORMS, FACINGS AND LACE. 330pp., 4to, illustrated throughout with colour plates, each depicting
in diagrammatic form every aspect of the uniform of each particular
regiment. 2009. Every so often a masterpiece of a publication comes
along, and this is one of them. If you have any interest in the uniforms
of the British Army in the Napoleonic wars you have to have this book.
It replaces any other research, going meticulously to the significant
sources, it lists everything you could want to know about the uniforms,
accoutrements and facings with the most stunning colour plates. The
book is divided into 4 parts, the first two parts deal with the cavalry
(commonalities and then regiment by regiment), parts 3 & 4 treat
the infantry in the same way. This is one of those books you will refer
back to time and time and time again (in which case of course you may
want to buy two copies!) £40.00 |
