| FIELDING (W.) A MEMOIR OF THE WATERLOO CAMPAIGN, 1815, BY LIEUTENANT COLONEL WILLIAM FIELDING, COLDSTREAM GUARDS. 34pp., 4 colour plates, P.B. 2011. A study written by Lieutenant Colonel William Fielding, Coldstream Guards (1836-1895) It is always interesting when a serving army officer records his thoughts on a campaign and particularly if produced during a period when technology has not moved on so far that their own experiences of campaigning become irrelevant. Fielding understood the tactics of the period. He knew movement rates, capabilities and limitations; therefore his estimates of the capabilities of troops in the Waterloo campaign can be largely trusted. The other interesting aspect to Fielding’s work is that it concentrates solely on the actions of the Prussian Army during the Waterloo campaign; assuming that the reader was already au fait with the actions of Wellington’s Army during that famous campaign. | |||
